The IT-495 Internship Seminar is designed to bridge academic knowledge with real-world IT experience. The course provides students with the opportunity to apply technical skills learned in the classroom to professional settings, gaining exposure to industry practices and workflows. It emphasizes understanding organizational IT structures, project management, and workplace dynamics. Students are encouraged to analyze, reflect, and report on their internship experiences to demonstrate learning outcomes. The seminar also focuses on professional development, including communication, problem-solving, and ethical considerations in IT. Overall, IT-495 prepares students to transition effectively from academic study to professional IT roles.

During the IT-495 internship seminar, I have significantly developed my higher-order thinking skills by analyzing complex IT problems and evaluating effective solutions in real-world scenarios. My problem-solving abilities improved as I encountered diverse technical challenges, such as troubleshooting hardware and software issues, and finding efficient resolutions. I also enhanced my soft skills, including communication and collaboration, through working closely with colleagues and supervisors in team-based projects. My resourcefulness grew as I learned to locate and utilize tools, documentation, and online resources to complete tasks independently. Time management became essential as I balanced multiple assignments and deadlines, ensuring quality and timely completion of work. Additionally, I developed leadership skills by taking initiative on projects and guiding peers when needed, which strengthened my confidence in professional settings. Overall, this course has been invaluable in preparing me for future IT roles by fostering both technical expertise and essential professional skills.
